The SSC CHSL Exam is held in both online and offline mode. There are about 3 stages in the exam - Tier 1, 2 and 3. The Tier-1 paper is objective and Tier-2 paper is descriptive in nature. The Tier-1 exam is for a total of 200 marks while the Tier-2 paper is for a total of 100 marks. The Tier-1 exam is for a duration of 75 minutes and Tier-2 is for a total duration of 60 minutes. The exam is held in a bilingual mode - English and Hindi.

The following are the stages of the exam explained in detail:

  • Tier-1 - Computer Written Based Examination (Objective Type)
  • Tier- 2 - Written Exam (Descriptive paper)
  • Tier- 3 - Typing Test/Skill Test

SSC CHSL Tier 1 Detailed Pattern

  1. The objective paper needed to be given in an online mode.
  2. The Question paper consists of 4 components: General Intelligence, English, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness
  3. Tier 1 exam would have 100 questions totaled for 200 marks.
  4. The Duration of the exam would be for about 75 minutes.
  5. The Question paper would be in both English and Hindi for Papers 1,3 and 4.
  6. For every wrong answer, 0.5 marks would be deducted.
  7. Every section would have 25 questions each for 50 marks.

Tier 2 Descriptive Paper

  1. The second stage of  SSC CHSL is a descriptive exam which would be conducted offline ( Pen and Paper based)
  2. Candidates would be required to write letters/essay/application letter etc.
  3. This paper carries a total of 100 marks for a duration of 1 hour.
  4. The qualifying marks set in this case is about 30%.
  5. The word limit would be set on an average for about 200-300 words.

Tier 3 Skill Test

  1. The typing test would be conducted for candidates who are applying for the post of Data Entry Operator.
  2. Candidates would have to qualify this test as per the speed limit indicated by the convenor.
