MAT 2021 has been scheduled to be conducted on 20th February 2021 and 6th March 2021 in CBT and PBT modes respectively. The application procedure for both the modes started from 4th January 2021 and candidates willing to take the examination are advised to visit the official website of AIMA i.e. mat.aima.in and register themselves for the upcoming examination.
Before taking any examination, the candidates must be aware of its pattern. The candidates must understand the number of questions and type of questions asked during the examination.
All India Management Association (AIMA), being the conducting authority of MAT Exam has introduced no such changes in the exam pattern and the question paper is designed in the same way as it used to be during the previous years.
About MAT 2021
The exam is conducted in two phases namely Phase 1 and Phase 2.
- Computer Based Test is Phase 1 of MAT 2021 Exam which is scheduled to be conducted on 20th February 2021.
- Paper Based Test is Phase 2 of MAT 2021 Exam which is scheduled to be conducted on 6th March 2021.
Important Points of MAT Exam Pattern
Management Admission Test popularly known as MAT Exam consists of Multiple-Choice type questions. Below mentioned are some of the important facts of MAT Exam Pattern that students must be aware of before applying for the exam:
- MAT Question Paper consists of total 200 questions of Multiple-Choice type (MCQs).
- The difficulty level of MAT Questions vary from easy to moderate.
- The question paper is divided in 5 sections namely Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning, Indian and Global Environment.
How to Answer MAT Questions?
- There are total 200 questions, and each question consists of 4-5 options out of which only 1 is correct.
- Candidates will be required to choose the correct option out of these multiple options given.
- Mark the correct option on the answer sheet given to you if it is a paper-based test and click on it if it is a computer-based test.
- The total time duration in which candidates must complete their exam is 2 hours 30 minutes i.e. 150 minutes in total.
- Each correct answer marked or clicked by students will award them +1 mark.
- -0.25 marks will be deducted as penalty for every wrong answer.
Difficulty Level of MAT 2021 Exam
The difficulty level of MAT Exam varies from easy to moderate. As per the previous MAT Question Papers, it can be perceived that the question paper of MAT Exam does not contain tough questions. General Knowledge Section – MAT 2021 Exam (Not considered for final marks)
The final marks of candidates in MAT Exam are evaluated based on their performance in 4 sections out of the 5 sections in which the question paper is divided. The marks obtained by candidates in the Indian and Global Environment sections is mentioned separately on MAT Scorecard, but the marks are not considered while calculating the merit or percentile score.
MAT 2021 Exam Pattern
MAT Question Paper is generally designed to analyze students' knowledge in various fields such as Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Data Analysis, etc. Based on candidates' performance in MAT Exam, they are shortlisted to undergo the management programs at various institutions.
Coming to MAT 2021 Exam Pattern, the question paper is divided in five segments wherein each segment comprises of 40 questions contributing to a total of 200 questions. The questions asked in the exam are of objective type and are designed to ascertain candidates' aptitude knowledge.

Language Comprehension
One of the 5 sections is Language Comprehension in MAT Exam. The section is further divided in two parts namely Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension.

Intelligence and Critical Reasoning
Intelligence and Critical Reasoning Section of the exam is further divided in two parts which consist of questions based on Analytical and Logical Reasoning.

Data Analysis and Data Sufficiency
Another section of MAT Exam is Data Analysis and Data Sufficiency. There are two types of questions in this section i.e. Data Analysis which is almost equivalent to Data Interpretation and the other type of questions is based on Data Sufficiency.

Mathematical Skill
This section of MAT Exam consists of questions in order to analyze students' mathematical skills. This is a quantitative ability section. The subject for this section is wide and this sections also covers every topic in Mathematics while emphasizing on Arithmetic primarily.

Indian and Global Environment
This section of the exam covers current affairs, static general knowledge, business and economy, international current affairs, constitution of India, etc. There are total 40 questions asked in this section, but the marks obtained by candidates in this section are not considered while calculating the final score of the exam. Candidates are fee to leave this section or attempt questions if they have time to do so.
Marking Scheme of MAT 2021 Exam
Candidates taking MAT Examination are given 200 questions to complete in 150 minutes. It is also important to understand the marking scheme of an examination to score well. Since the question paper consists of 200 questions, each question carries one mark.
As per the marking scheme of MAT Exam, each correct question is rewarded with +1 mark which 0.25 marks are deducted as a penalty for each incorrect answer.
