Candidates would be appearing for IIT JAM exam pattern in February 2023. Candidates with the help of exam pattern can prepare well for IIT JAM exam. The exam pattern details include examination type, duration of exam, number of questions, mode of exam etc.
- IIT JAM exam is objective type online exam, comprised of 3 sections consisting a total of 60 questions carrying 100 marks.
- The duration of the exam is 3hrs (180 minutes).
- There will be no negative marking in Section B and Section C.

There are 3 sections in the question paper, A, B, C. Check out the details of three sections :
Section A
- Total Question: Total 30 MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions).
- Marking scheme: Question will carry one or two marks.
- Each question will contain four optional answers; students have to choose the right answer only. Candidates can answer by clicking the given choices.
Section B
- Total Question: Total 10 MSQ (Multiple Choice Questions).
- Marking scheme: Question carries two marks.
- Each question will contain four given choices out of which more than one choice(s) can be correct. Candidates will get full marks if all the correct answers are selected. Two marks will be given for each correct answer.
Section C
- Total Question: Total 20 NAT (Numerical Answer Type).
- Marking scheme: Question carries two marks.
- No options will be displayed for these types of questions. Candidates have to answer by pressing the number through the virtual numeric keypad.
IIT JAM 2023 Marking Scheme
- There are total 60 questions which carry 100 marks.
- There is no negative marking in the Section B & C, but negative marking will be done for Section A.
- In section A, for the one mark question, 1/3 of marks will be deducted, and for two marks questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted for each incorrect response.
- No marks will be deducted for un-attempted questions.

As mentioned above there will be two sessions of JAM 2023.
Each of these sessions will be held for three hours, and different sets of JAM papers will be conducted in each of these sessions.
