GATE 2023 will be conducted on 4, 5, 11, and 12 February 2023 by IIT Kanpur. GATE 2023 conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) will release a statement stating the relaxation given in GATE 2023 Eligibility on its official website. The basic eligibility to appear GATE 2023 Exam is to have possessed a bachelor's degree in the relevant field from a recognized university. Candidates in their final year of graduation can also apply for the exam. GATE 2023 Eligibility
- Candidates should hold a B.Tech./B.E. degree (4 years after 10+2 and 3 years after diploma courses).
- Candidates who are in the final year of such programs are also eligible to apply.
- There is GATE Age Limit to apply for GATE Exam.
- For B. Arch. Candidates: Bachelor's degree in Architecture (5 years) or appearing in the final year of their degree.
- For B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Research): Students should be in the 4th year or already completed the degree.
- For Int. M.E/M. Tech (Post –B.Sc.): Students should be currently in the 2nd/3rd/4th year or already completed.
- For Int. M.E/M. Tech or Dual Degree (after Diploma or 10+2): Students should be in the 4th/5th year of their dual degree course.
- For M.Sc. / Int. B.S. – M.S.: Student should be in the final year or should have already completed.
- For Professional Society Examination (equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch.): Students should have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses.
- Candidates need to check the GATE Eligibility Criteria before filling up the Application Form to complete the GATE Application Procedure.
Besides, there were two new papers that were introduced to GATE 2022 Exam and these two papers were Environmental Science and Engineering (ES) and Humanities and Social Science (XH). Thus, students belonging to Arts and Humanities background were also considered eligible to take GATE 2022 Exam.

GATE Age Limit and No. of Attempts
- There is no age bar set to apply for the exam i.e. there is no maximum or minimum GATE Age Limit to appear GATE 2023 Exam.
- Students can appear as many GATE Papers as they want if they are eligible.
- The major criteria to be fulfilled by candidates are their nationality and academic qualifications.
- The eligibility for admission to M. Tech in IITs vary according to the participating institutes.
GATE Eligibility for International Students
The GATE examination is also conducted for candidates from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates for admissions in Post Graduate and Research programs offered by IITs and IISc Bangalore. Following are the mandatory requirements for foreign students:
- The candidate must have passed bachelor's degree in Engineering. OR.
- The candidate must have passed master's degree in a relevant Science subject.
- The candidates studying in the final year can also apply for the examination.
- The course duration should be at least 3 years.
GATE Eligibility for Candidates having Backlog
The GATE Exam Eligibility Criteria vary for students with bachelor's or master's degree with and without backlogs. Candidates who have arrears or failed in any papers of the qualifying degree must satisfy any one of the following:
- The candidate must submit a copy of any one of the marks sheets of the final year.
- The candidate must obtain a declaration from the Principal of their institute carrying signature and seal beforehand.
GATE 2023 Eligibility Documents Required
- Applicants applying for GATE 2023 will be needed to upload certain documents to define qualification rules of GATE Exam.
