About NIT Silchar:
National Institute of Technology (Silchar), commonly referred to as NIT Silchar, was established in the academic year of 1967. It is one of the 31 NITs in India and was constructed as Regional Engineering College in Assam with the help of Government of India and the State Government of Assam. It was approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The institute was given the status of "Institute of national importance" in 2002 and was referred to as Deemed University. The infrastructure of National Institute of Technology Silchar is the second best in the north-east region after IIT Guwahati. Despite being located in a comparatively backward region in term of technology, the institute manages to provide a fully-fledged infrastructure. The campus is spread over an area of 625 acres. The classrooms are spacious, well-furnished and have two LAN ports for quick internet access. Apart from this, the classrooms are well equipped with Projectors for a better understanding of the subjects. It does provide hostel facilities for the students coming from out of the city. The campus has seven Boys’ hostel and two Girls’ hostel. Each hostel room is provided with LAN ports, thus making information accessibility easier for the students.

The institute was ranked 38 in the Engineering category by NIRF 2022. NIT Silchar provides undergraduate and postgraduate studies in engineering, science, and humanities, as well as 13 other departments. Approximately 94 recruiters visited NIT Silchar during the 2022 placement hunt. Amazon, Microsoft, Adobe, Arcesium, Intuit, and others are among the top recruiters. During the NIT Silchar Placements 2022, 537 offers were made and 97 people were placed. Amazon provided the highest salary offered, INR 44 LPA. Students earned an average of INR 13.58 LPA.
