The National Institute of Technology (Puducherry), widely referred to as NIT Puducherry, commenced its establishment in the academic year of 2010. NIT Puducherry is one of the 31 NITs currently functioning in India that aim to impart technical education to different segments of society. The institute has been declared as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India in the year 2007.

NIT Puducherry Highlights

The institute has been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). As the institute is one of the national institutes, it is being controlled by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the Government of India.

The infrastructure of the institute is spread over and area of 258 acres near village Poovam in Karaikal. The institute provides its students with all the basic amenities. There are nine academic departments namely Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics.

Grievance Cell- The function of the cell is to interact with the students to resolve the problems faced by them. They can report their grievance by filling and submitting the registration form available on the official website of the institute.

Medical Facilities- An MoU has been signed between Vinayaka Mission Medical College and Hospital and NIT Puducherry to provide medical facilities for the students.

Women Cell- The main aim of establishing the cell was to empower the women staff of the institute. Be it a student, faculty, or any other staff. Steps towards health and safety concerns are taken.

The faculty members of the institute are well educated and most of the members hold PhD or M. Tech degree in their respective fields. Some of the members are experienced and have graduated or postgraduate from NITs or IITs. They use various techniques of teaching that make learning easier and helps students grow in their respective fields.

The courses offered at NIT Puducherry include programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The programs that come under NIT Puducherry Courses are B. Tech at the undergraduate level, M. • For admission to B. Tech, the candidates must hold a valid score in JEE Main examination. The shortlisted candidates are, then, advised to sit through then counseling procedure conducted at the institute.
• For admission to M. Tech, the candidates must qualify the written entrance examination followed by personal interview round conducted by the institute.
• Candidates who apply for CCMT (a national level counseling) are also eligible to apply for admission to M. Tech.
• Admission to PhD requires qualifying of the written entrance examination followed by personal interview round.
