Placement: Internships are good, many good companies coming to the campus. Stipend might be slightly below one’s expectations, but given the current industry trends, it’s not that bad. Same goes for placements.
I’m in my first year, but from what I hear from seniors, the roles offered are good, it’s just that not being in a top league IIM gives you a little handicap.
Faculty: Favourite teacher here is Mr. Srinivasan Tatachari, our professor for Individual and Group Dynamics. His ways of engaging with the students on social media, as well as making the students a part of his research projects, all just make him the best. To know more, you’ll have to be here and experience it first hand.
College: This college is one of the most democratic ones I’ve been in, and heard of. All activities are taken up by the student community itself. A typical day involves classes till afternoon, people keep themselves engaged in various activities and sports till evening. Post this starts the struggle to complete all assignments and get he pre-reads done for the next day.
In the midst of this daily routine, we do find time to have inter-section events, sports fest, Solaris (our annual management fest), as well as my favourite, Audacity (our cultural fest).
We are in the process of shifting to our state-of-the art new campus spread over more than 250 acres, and on a nice hilly terrain on the outskirts of this beautiful city of lakes.
The pros of being here:
The tag IIM does matter.
You learn how to manage, real time.
You get to study with a peer group which involves people as young as 20, and some as old as 30.
Biggest pro: Our very own manager, our Director, Mr. Janat Shah. He is the one who has been the biggest inspiration for the most of us here.
Will give you a first hand experince of being in a startup (since the institute is only 5 years young). The only difference is, this startup is run mostly on taxpayers’ money. :p
Cons:
If you’re looking for the BEST placements, this might not be the best place for you.
Lastly, a little bit of advice for freshers from commerce background.
Do brush up on mathematics, actually don’t just brush up, learn more. Your CBSE curriculum might not be enough to find easy success once here. Grades don’t matter too much, just keep yourself above 3. Once you’re sure you can manage that, be a member of 2 clubs, no more, no less. Take up live projects, there are many offered by local industries here. Attend as many guest lectures and research seminars as you can, once you’re here.
If you do all of the above, it is bound to be an enriching experience for all you young minds out there.
Exam: Based on School / 12th Class Result, State / National Entrance Exams, Group Discussion / Personal Interview
