JEE Main 2024 Total Marks - Minimum Marks to Qualify, Exam Pattern, Negative Marking

  • The JEE Main 2024 Exam schedule has been published by the NTA at jeemain.nta.nic.in. JEE Main 2024 is scheduled to be conducted from January 24 to February 1, 2024 and April 1 to 15, 2024. 
  • The official brochure at the JEE Main website consists of information about the JEE Main Exam Pattern. The JEE Main Pattern 2024 will include details such as the total number of questions, the JEE Main 2024 marking scheme, the types of questions, the examination mode, and more. The dates for the JEE Main 2024 exams for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) and Paper 2 (B.Arch or B.Plan) will be released soon. Candidates are advised to review the NTA JEE exam pattern before registering for the JEE Main 2024 Exam.
  • Two papers—Paper 1 for B.Tech/B.E. and Paper 2 for B.Arch—will make up the JEE Main 2024 exam. Paper 2 of the B.Plan is further divided into Papers 2A and 2B, and is administered separately for the B.Arch and B.Plan degrees, respectively. Except for the drawing section of paper 2A, which is administered offline, the JEE Main exam is administered online.
  • The 90 MCQs in the B.E./B.Tech JEE Main exam will be worth 300 points. Paper 2A for B.Arch will have 82 questions totaling 400 points, and Paper 2B for B.Plan will have 105 MCQs totaling 400 points. In addition to Hindi, English, and Gujarati, the exam will be given in Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. JEE Main Total Marks 2023

NTA has been the exam conducting body since 2019 and has been given the authority to set and develop the JEE Main Exam Pattern.

  • The total marks of JEE main question paper were changed significantly by the NTA in 2024.
  • JEE Main previously had two papers: B.E/B.Tech for 360 points and B. Arch/B. Planning for 390 points.
  •  A separate paper for B. Planning was introduced this year. The JEE Main Marks for each paper have also been adjusted. The B.E/B.Tech paper is now worth 300 points, the B.Arch paper is worth 400 points, and the B.Planning paper is also worth 400 points. 
  • Candidates can view the section-wise distribution of total marks in JEE Mains for all three sections.

* For Paper 1 and Part-I of Paper 2, each Subject will have two sections. Section A will be of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) and Section B will contain Questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value. In Section B, candidates have to attempt any 05 (five) questions out of 10. There will be negative marking for both Section A and Section B.

Note* Qualifying JEE Main Exam will make students eligible to take JEE Advanced. For admission to IITs, candidates must qualify JEE Advanced Exam with a valid score.

JEE Main Total Marks - JEE Main 2024 Paper 1 (B.E/ B. Tech Paper) 

The JEE Main B.E/B.Tech paper will be administered via computer-based testing (CBT). There will be three sections in the paper: physics, chemistry, and mathematics.

JEE Total marks for B.E/B.Tech Paper are mentioned below: 

  • There will be 10 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions in each of the three sections, but students can answer any five of them.
  • There will be 20 MCQs in each section, and all questions must be answered. 
  • Each MCQ is worth 4 points if answered correctly; incorrect answers are worth 1 point.
  • Each NAT question is worth 4 points if answered correctly, and 0 points if answered incorrectly. 
  • The paper will take three hours to complete. 
  • The maximum possible score is 300.

JEE Main Total Marks - JEE Main 2024 Paper 2 (B. Arch)

The JEE Main B.Arch Exam Pattern will be 82 questions, with 5 more Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions added to the Mathematics section. Students will, however, only need to answer 77 questions divided into three sections:​

  • Section I - Mathematics
  • Section II - Aptitude test
  • Section III - Drawing Test
  • Sections I and II of JEE Main 2024 Paper 2 will be administered via computer-based testing (CBT).
  • Section I contains Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions with no negative marking.
  • Section III will be pen and paper-based; previously, the paper had three questions in this section; now, there will be only two.

JEE Main Total Marks - JEE Main 2024 Paper 2 (B. Planning) 

JEE Total marks for B.Planning are mentioned below:

  • The B. Planning paper (Paper 3) will be administered via computer-based testing (CBT). 
  • With the addition of 5 more Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions in the Mathematics section, the total number of questions in B.Planning will be 105. Students will, however, be required to answer only 100 questions divided into three sections:​
  • Section I - Mathematics
  • Section II - Aptitude
  • Section III - Planning-based questions
  • There will be no negative marking for Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions in the Mathematics section.

  • The JEE Exam Pattern specifies how the exam will be administered and the format of the JEE Main question paper. JEE Main was previously held in four sessions, but in 2024, JEE Main will be held in two sessions. However, we have yet to receive notification from the exam authority on the matter.

The raw scores for Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry were converted into total NTA scores as follows:NTA scores are calculated by adding the raw scores from the Mathematics, Aptitude Test, Drawing Test, and Writing Test. The raw Math, Aptitude Test, Planning-Based Test, and total scores are converted to NTA scores. 
The overall merit is calculated by adding the NTA scores from the first and second shifts across all days.

What is the marking scheme of JEE Main 2023?
