What is GFTI?

GFTI also known as The Government Funded Technical Institutes, are a group of 27 top technical institutes which are funded by the Government of India. According to the official date, the number of seats available for the academic year 2015 was approximately 9,260. It has a similar academic and admissions system to NITs and IIITs.

Those who have cleared JEE Main 2023 can secure admission to Government-funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). These institutes offer a total of 8051 seats across 37 top-listed Government-funded Technical Institutes. The Ministry of Education (MOE) has established the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to oversee admissions in 26 IIITs and 37 other technical institutes. JoSAA acts as a unified platform for candidates qualifying for GFTI colleges through the JEE Main exam, whether fully or partially funded by GFTIs.

The nation's GFTI colleges are dispersed among various states. JOSAA Counselling is in charge of counseling, and JEE is used for admission to GFTI. The list of GFTIs participating in the academic year 2020–21 is provided below, along with each institution's seat allocation.

Fee Structure of GFTI Colleges

The official website of the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) provides information about the fee structures for all Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). These institutes have varying fee structures, with some requiring semester-wise payments, while others mandate annual payments. Students are expected to cover costs such as institute fees, transport fees, and hostel and mess fees on a per-semester or yearly basis. Additionally, there are one-time charges like advance and caution money, which are refundable.

Certain institutes offer fee waiver schemes that grant fee reductions based on students' JEE Main All India Rank (AIR) positions. Students from the SC/ST category may enjoy partial exemptions from tuition fees in specific institutes. Domicile candidates of the Institute of Infrastructure, Technology, Research and Management, Ahmedabad, can benefit from scholarships in the form of a fee waiver scheme, where they only need to pay half of the total fee.

The fee structure for the first year or first semester of the 18 GFTIs is highlighted in the table below.
