What is GATE?
The GATE exam, which stands for "Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering," is used to select candidates for admission to postgraduate engineering programs. During PSU recruitment, GATE scores are also taken into account. The GATE exam is jointly administered by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras, Roorkee, and Kanpur) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national exam that is authorised and administered in eight regions throughout India. The GATE Committee, faculty members from IISc, and seven other IITs administer the exam on behalf of the HRD (Human Resources Development) Ministry, National Coordinating Board (NCB), and Department of Education. The GATE scorecard is also used by a number of PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) to recruit candidates for prestigious jobs at Indian Oil, GAIL, and Hindustan Petroleum, amongst many others.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs in Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) jointly administer GATE.

The GATE 2023 exam eligibility criteria, as well as the official website, will be released by the authorities. The GATE eligibility criteria include important parameters that candidates must meet in order to be considered for the entrance exam. The authorities have established these GATE exam eligibility criteria for 2023, and candidates are advised to review them before completing the application form. GATE 2023 eligibility criteria include a variety of factors such as age, academics, nationality, and others.
Candidates in their third year of an undergraduate degree will be eligible for the GATE exam, according to the GATE eligibility criteria. Non-science graduates from the arts and commerce can also apply for GATE now that humanities and social science have been added.
- GATE 2022 eligibility criteria include a number of parameters such as academic qualification, nationality, and others:
- Applicants must have a minimum of 10+2+3 qualifications. Students in their third year, higher, or who have already finished their undergraduate program can also enroll for the GATE entrance exam.
- Previously, applicants could only apply for one specific discipline. However, starting from last year, students can choose two papers from the guided form of combinations.
- There is one piece of good news for all GATE aspirants: there is no minimum or maximum age limit for taking the GATE Exam.
- Graduate students in Engineering/ Technology/ Arts/ Commerce, as well as postgraduate students in relevant disciplines, are eligible applicants.
- There is no attempt limit; candidates must simply meet the eligibility requirements.
- Candidates who hold certification from any of the professional societies, however, must ensure that the examinations administered by the societies are recognized by the MoE/AICTE/UGC/UPSC as equivalent to B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch. / B.Planning, etc.
- Candidates who obtained or are pursuing their qualifying degree in a country other than India: Must be in their third or higher year of study or have completed a Bachelor's degree (duration: at least three years) in Engineering / Technology / Science / Arts / Commerce.

GATE 2023 Subjects & Syllabus
Earlier, GATE used to consist of only 27 subjects, or papers. But, in the 2022 GATE Exam, which was held by IIT Kharagpur, the committee added 2 more subjects, namely GE (Geomatics Engineering) and NM (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering). The director of IIT-Kharagpur VK Tewari stated that the two new papers will provide direct benefits to the students wanting to pursue these domains, and will help GATE create a strong brand value.
