Engineering Courses Eligibility

One aspiring to pursue the Engineering course should make sure to be well-versed in the eligibility of the same. The eligibility criteria vary from course to course. Furthermore, the Engineering Courses Eligibility can be found below:-

BE/ B.Tech Course Eligibility:-

The applicants must have qualified for their class 12th along with Physics, Chemistry, and maths as their main subjects.

One must have secured a minimum of 60% in their 12th.

Students must receive a grade point average of at least 50% in Class 12 in order to be admitted to BTech programs in engineering universities across the nation. The minimum required marks are reduced by 5% for students in reserved categories, such as SC/ST.

Students who took biology in class 12 are also qualified to apply for engineering specialties including biomedical engineering and biotechnology.

BA Lateral Entry:-

Candidates must have obtained a three-year diploma from the Board of Technical Examination of the state government with a minimum overall score of 45%.

Engineering Courses: Admission Process

The admission process for Engineering courses depends on the institute.

Admission to the Engineering courses is done through entrance examination or direct admission.

Admission Through Entrance Examination:-

Engineering institutes in India do not recognize the results of a single entrance exam for admission to BTech programs. Some colleges and states have their own entrance exam, while the majority of states and colleges recognize the JEE Main result. In addition to JEE Main, candidates also take MHT CET, BITSAT, APEAMCET, SRMJEEE, VITEEE, and other state-level engineering admission exams. However, state-level engineering entrance tests are only available in that state.

  • Some states accept engineering entrance test scores from both the national and state levels for BTech admissions. For instance, Maharashtra bases its BTech admissions decisions on the results of both the JEE Main and the MHT CET. 15% of BTech seats in Himachal Pradesh are determined by students' JEE Main scores. The state's engineering admission test fills the remaining 85% of the positions.

Admission Without Entrance Examination:-

  • Management quotas are frequently used by private engineering colleges to admit students without an entrance exam. These students do pay greater BTech tuition than those who enter through entrance exams, though.
  • In some areas, BTech admissions are completely determined by a student's Class 12 grades and percentages. Anna University in Tamil Nadu, for instance, employs a centralized admissions procedure known as Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions for its undergraduate engineering programs (TNEA). All students in the state must take part in TNEA to be eligible for a seat under the state or concession quota.
